NSW: National Holiday Road toll rises to 15

The national holiday road toll has risen to 15, with the death in New South Wales of an elderly pedestrian.

Police say an 82-year-old man was walking along Homer Street at Earlwood .. in Sydney's west .. about 11.30 (AEST) yesterday morning .. when he was knocked to the ground and pinned under a car.

He was freed by police and ambulance personnel at the scene .. and rushed to Royal Prince Alfred hospital .. but died about three hours later.

The 48-year-old female driver was also admitted to hospital and treated for shock.

The man's death brings the state's Christmas road toll to six.

Four people have died in Victoria .. Queensland and the Northern Territory have recorded two fatalities each, and one person has died in Western Australia.

The Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania and South Australia remain fatality free.
